I enjoyed the opportunity to sit down with Representative Walt Brooks on PoliticIt Dixie today. Much of our conversation focused on something that seems increasingly rare in government: reducing the…
So we wanted to talk today a little bit about like limiting the burden of the government on the people.
And that I feel like, um, there's a lot of ways that we can do that, but I feel like you have found some pretty unique ways to, to do that for the state of Utah.
So do we want to talk maybe first about kind of like the high cost of buildings? Should we start there?
So, um, you know, we have a lot of needs for buildings, our universities and schools and different things that, um, we need to have to be able to educate our kids and, or just to have government buildings to work in.
Right.
But
the cost of those buildings are kind of one of those things that are not seen by the public oftentimes.
But, um, being familiar with the construction industry a little bit, I, I saw some of the buildings that are being built and I've been in what we call the IGG, it's changed the name of it, but it's infrastructure and general government for, since I've been in the legislature.
I'm seeing the cost of buildings and how the costs have escalated to unrealistic terms.
I'm like, what is wrong with this? Are they building chocolate fountains in there? What are they doing? So I started looking through all of the cost structures and Part of it was our own fault.
