Playmaker's Corner 537: 2026 Colorado High School Flag Football--Semifinal and State Recap

All right, now let's go ahead and talk about

this 5A semifinal game between Legend and Mountain Vista, the rivalry right here in the semis here.

Fun fact, this is the third year in a row that one of these two teams will be eliminated.

Ending the other season, I guess last year's didn't really count They were both in state but the year before that you have that crazy semi-final game one of the many great duels of Maddie Smolin versus our Ariana a key in that one now a whole year removed we have yet another battle between Rivals here gone is the era of Smolin and a key and And in is the era of Law and Mar as we got a good one here.

Earlier this season, they did meet up in a game where it really wasn't that close.

Mountain Vista beat Legend by a lot, 33-14 here.

But as of late, Legend has been on fire with big, big wins here.

Over Cherry Creek, over Liberty, 40-14 and 53-6 respectively coming into this one.

For Mountain Vista, kind of a scare against Denver South, 20-7.

And then Valor Christian would score 19 points in the second half here.

But they still beat them 43-19 as they kind of got back on track.

And so going into this one, both teams looking at a game that will for sure be a battle game.

And a battle it was.

So let's go ahead and hop right into it.

In the first quarter, Mountain Vista starts with it.

Peyton Maher fighting Amelia Hansen on third down to go ahead and get their first first down of the game.

But then Tori Curdy, the standout rusher, gets a big time sack here after that first first down.

She will then get another pressure.

Not quite getting the sack, but still forcing an incompletion.

And then Mountain Vista would drop the ball again on third down to bring up fourth down as they would punt on drive one.

For Legend here, they would go ahead and Addie Law, the judge, would find Ella Smith for a first down here, finding her in the flats, then Smith doing the rest, making a player miss and getting the first first down.

But their drive would also end up stalling as both teams would punt on drive number one.

Second drive though for Mountain Vista, Peyton Maher would go ahead and get a first and then following that would find Kaylee Besch on an out route who would make a player miss and then is gone down the right sideline to the house to make it 6-0.

A big time play by Kaylee Besch here for a 40 plus yard gain here.

That is how explosive and dangerous she is as she makes what would have been a short pass here if the corner got the pull into a long touchdown as Vista strikes first here.
