So let's go back to the beginning.

I'm sure you've been doing this for years and years now.

Before Instagram.

No, actually not.

So Instagram was a big part of getting into photography.

Oh, really? Okay.

So originally when Instagram was created, it was mobile phone photography as mobile phones were getting better.

And started that just around about 2010, 2010.

2011 came across to new zealand and then continued that on played a big part in the instagram story within new zealand he used to host the instagram meets and work closely with instagram back then to grow that platform and then that took on to the formats that i shoot now because the square format doesn't suit my kind of photography

so how was that those early days in

Early days Instagram, it was a huge community.

Everybody knew everybody would have Instagram meets.

There'd always be up to 100 plus people join the event.

It was a real good vibe.

Everybody followed everybody.

There was no kind of divas and there was no influencers per se back then.

It was just showcasing your day, showcasing your work.

and everybody would meet up and it didn't matter what genre of photography you did Instagram was that kind of community which I feel nowadays is just it's now business where people influencers and businesses and it just becomes a marketing platform but it's still one of the necessary evils to have as a photographer because when you meet people say what is your Instagram rather than what's your website what's your Facebook page what's your Flickr what's your 500px it's all what's your Instagram so yeah i know you've got to compete with people that will will do work for bread and butter or people that want to do a campaign for fifty thousand dollars so it's it's still good there's still a community there there's still a lot of talented upcoming photographers out there as well but there's also a lot of what's my word i'll look for it a lot of rubbish a lot of influencers and i do have a name for them but i'm not going to say that

Okay.

But honestly, has photography changed due to Instagram, do you think? Has Instagram, Jasper Creations, et cetera, changed?

I think for a lot of people, I do not go out and shoot for an Instagram shot.

I go out to shoot because I want to shoot and because I shoot larger than full frame.

I have to say that for legal reasons.

But for most people, it's medium format, digital.

so my images are large so i want to see i want people to see the full image rather than just a one by one or a 16 by nine cropped sized image so and a lot of people just shoot for instagram in that format and i think it's it's okay but yeah that's it's not me i shoot big wide and and get the most megapixels out of what i'm trying to do
