Zelensky warned Russian leaders that Ukraine would step up their bombardment, making the coming winter painful for Russia if the two sides cannot agree to a truce on energy attacks before the temperature drops.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Reuters that the leaders of Russia and Ukraine have expressed that they are open to some kind of limited ceasefire relating to energy targets.
I think both sides have expressed an interest in some limited ceasefire that involved grain and energy.
Obviously, you know, that won't be easy either because, um, but, but it's something that both sides have expressed an interest in.
I think President Zelensky has done so publicly, uh, did it with us yesterday, did it, I think, in interviews over the last few hours.
And, um, so obviously, look, that, that's something that might ha- It doesn't solve the war, but it does, I think, in some ways, uh, potentially alleviate some of the global, uh, pressures that are being felt as a result of that.
According to The Guardian, Rubio said that the US has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to take part in the G20, scheduled to meet in Miami in December, in what would be his first major summit since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Zelensky also confirmed in his UN speech that Ukrainian officials have sent two North Korean prisoners of war to South Korea following months of consultations between Kiev and Seoul after the soldiers were captured in Russia's Kursk region in 2025.
