He had an idea about what would fix it.

In 1949, Hill founded KPFA in Berkeley, California, the first listener-supported non-commercial radio station in the United States, and the founding station of what Hill called the Pacifica Foundation.

The premise was dead simple.

and impossibly optimistic.

McCarthyite pressure shaped what KPFA could say and how boldly it could say it.

The cooperative, listener-supported model that Hill had invented proved more durable in the specific politics he'd hoped to advance with it.

Pacifica Radio descended from the Pacifica Foundation, and it still exists.

The vision of radio as a living demonstration that peaceful dialogue is possible, that's actually still there.

Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before? Maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world? Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?

Later today, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amandei, AI safety researcher Yoshua Bengio, and Hugging Face CEO Clément Dulong are all scheduled to brief the 15-member UN Security Council about the dangers of AI.

In his UN address, President Trump pushed back on the recent negative AI reports, attempting to rebrand artificial intelligence as superintelligence, saying this is how the technology will henceforth be referred to within the U.S. government.
