Logan Paulsen breaks down the Commanders' Week one loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Hosts: Logan Paulsen, Caroline Suder Producer: Caroline Suder The views and opinions expressed by our analysts…
Caroline SuderHostMy initial thoughts, it's good and bad, right? Like, there's so many positive things to take away.
A lot of, like, explosive defensive plays in terms of them creating TFL sacks, all those types of things.
Offensively, I thought kind of how they rallied in the second half was really commendable.
So I think there's a lot going on there to be positive about, but obviously it's in a loss, right? So you got to look at it with a critical eye and say, okay, how do we get a little bit better on first and second down in terms of efficiency in the first half to kind of put ourselves in more third and manageables? How do we, again, mitigate some of those big plays defensively? How do we clean up some of this stuff on special teams? We didn't even talk about special teams, but special teams I thought was excellent.
But again, there was just a little bit, a couple things here and there that if you get it cleaned up, you're in a good position to win the football game.
But there are some things that need to be cleaned up, and I think the coaching staff and the players are aware of that.
I thought he had a really good feel for kind of what Philadelphia wanted to do.
And again, the thing is, I kind of was expecting these exotic plays on third down, these blitzes coming from the stands, all that kind of thing.
But it really was on first and second down where I felt like he made a lot of his money kind of creating these negative plays for the Philadelphia offense, getting them behind the sticks.
And I thought they just did a great job of kind of cultivating a very not only an exotic kind of approach, but I think the other thing that sticks out is the personnel, how that improved, too.
