Off Campus is a hockey romance television series created by Louisa Levy for Amazon Prime Video. It is based on the *Off-Campus* book series by Elle Kennedy. *Off Campus* follows Hannah Wells and…
As hockey fans, as folks who have a podcast that is about enjoying hockey, but then also raising awareness for inclusivity and awareness for marginalized communities, we do have to make a correction here.
That is not what that means.
Here is what it actually means.
So it is slang for a female ice hockey fan whose primary interest in the sport is an attraction to the players rather than the game itself.
So this is often used in a misogynistic manner.
Misogynistic men look at fans who aren't men.
all they see is you are just interested in this sport so you can get in bed with one of these hockey players that you are just attracted to the men and you couldn't give two shits what's happening on the ice that and it erases fans who happen to be women or who happen to not be men.
We don't know if that scene is coming up in this episode that we're going to react to.
And I'm like, I'm really interested in what happens after the fact, because if we were making a parody of hockey, I would play along with the joke.
But if this is actually taken seriously in the context of the book or in the show, I'm going to have very different feelings.
Yeah.
I don't think we have anything to worry about our listeners.
You know, this is a very progressive podcast.
Our listeners are right there with us.
But if you weren't aware of the term already, if you're new to hockey because of, you know, the Sharks with Macklin and Will or with the new PWHL team coming, It's not a term of endearment.
It's usually used as an insult.
It's derogatory.
It's interesting that not only did the two actors not know what it meant, really, even though they're in a show that's based off hockey, I feel like maybe they could have put in a little extra effort to understand some of the terms that they're using on the show.
But also like Jimmy's team could also have done research to not ask that question or I don't know.
It was just, it's weird.
But
I don't care if you use it in your own group or if you yourself are a woman and you want to call yourself a puck bunny, that is your own business.
Yeah.
