Harvey KayeGuestFrankHostToday we are discussing the film Reds.
Directed by Warren Beatty.
Written by Warren Beatty and Trevor Griffith.
Starring Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Edward Herman, Jersey Kaczynski, Maureen Stapleton, Paul Servino, and Gene Hackman.
The budget for this movie was $32 million in 1981.
That's not a cheap budget for...
A studio film? It
I didn't get a chance to look too much into the production, but that's pretty shocking that a studio ponied that much up about the story of two turn-of-the-century communist radicals.
Paul
Oh, my God.
That's OK.
Too much for a three and a half hour movie.
No need to do that.
But the movie did gross 40 million dollars worldwide.
So it at least made its money back.
Wasn't a huge hit.
But if you've never seen this movie, we will be spoiling it.
This is the based on a true story of John Reed and Louise Bryant, two radical American journalists who become involved with the communist revolution in Russia and hope to bring the spirit and idealism back to the United States.
So real quick, Harvey, some historical context for when this film was released.
How nice.
