The Modern Father: Communication, Co-Parenting, and What Kids Really Need

Welcome to the Modern Husbands podcast, where any combination of Dr. Bruce Ross, Christian Sherrill, and Brian Page host national experts who share winning ideas to manage money and the home as a team. I’m Brian Page, founder of Modern Husbands. Sometimes our listeners want more support than a podcast can give, individual or couple support, which I provide as a Certified Financial Therapist, Accredited Financial Counselor and Fair Play Facilitator. Details can be found at modernhusbands.com. Today’s episode is the second of two with our guest Dr. Hart. If you missed the first, you can scroll back an episode before listening to this one. Dr. John Hart is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, researcher, speaker, and proud husband and father of fraternal twins. In our previous episode, Dr. Hart shared the realities of raising twins, including the financial surprises, emotional challenges, and parenting lessons that come with having multiples. As we continue the conversation in this episode, Dr. Hart explains how intentional communication, proactive partnership, and engaged fatherhood have strengthened his marriage and family, while offering insights from both his professional work as a therapist and his lived experience as a Black father. Enjoy the show. 00:00 Introduction 01:25 In counseling other parents with multiples, what have you noticed to be the primary challenges? 02:35 What strategies did you and your wife use to manage the parenting demands of multiples, from diapers and childcare to education and extracurricular activities?  12:24 As a Black father, did you encounter any unique cultural or community expectations while raising twins, and how did those experiences shape your parenting journey? 18:59 We end all our podcasts, with asking this question: What is one piece of simple and actionable advice you want to leave our listeners with? 20:24 Where can our listeners learn more about you and the work you are doing?
