“Toned” is one of the most common words in fitness. We are told we should want toned arms, toned legs and a toned stomach. We believe certain workouts will give us “long, lean muscles,” while heavier…
That is a word that has been thrown around for decades in the fitness and health and wellness industries.
And when I talk to women my entire career for over 25 years, one of the number one goals that women come to me with is I want a toned body.
If you go to YouTube where I spend a decent amount of time and put videos there for women to be able to work out at home and to learn about their bodies, one of the top searched words is toned.
Like if I just put the word toned in any workout video, it would probably get more clicks.
The idea of having a toned body is the ideal and kind of the gold standard for many women.
I want to talk about what is happening in your body physiologically when you picture a toned body.
Like not only what does that mean, but what has to happen in your body for that to occur, how you might get it, and then really a lot of the myths around that word toned.
And these are the kind of terms or maybe, you know, the thoughts that I get from women that I see out in the community around that is one, I don't want to get bulky, right? I don't want to get bulky.
