If mere knowledge suffice you and it did not require further action, then the call of Allah the Exalted, is there anyone who asks, is there anyone who seeks forgiveness, is there anyone who repents, would be pointless and devoid of value.
It was narrated that a group of the companions رضي الله عنه mentioned Abdullah bin Umar before Abdullah bin Umar was mentioned by Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم whereupon he صلى الله عليه وسلم said what an excellent man he is if he only prayed at night he صلى الله عليه وسلم also told a man amongst his companions oh so and so do not sleep a long portion of the night for sleeping a long portion of the night leaves the one who does so poor on the day of resurrection
The first statement where he says that, Imam Ghazali says, if mere knowledge sufficed you and did not require further action, then why would Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala every single day, every single night, ask, is there anyone who wants to repent? Is there anyone who needs to seek forgiveness? Is there anyone who needs anything? What does he mean by that? That a person...
Simply by knowing a lot of facts or memorizing a lot of different texts and snippets and nice beautiful statements, this itself does not mean much if a person does not translate this into action.
This is such an important discussion for myself and all of us inshaAllah tonight.
The importance of taking our knowledge that we have, that what we read, what we listen, the shorts nowadays and small clips, very motivational, very encouraging, iman boosting, tear jerking.
But we have to ask ourselves, is that it? Are we going to be rewarded simply by listening to these clips? Or are we going to be rewarded when those clips turn into action? There is such a huge emphasis right now of making knowledge and encouraging words easily accessible.
You can't, who's gonna read a book? So now their book has to have a beautiful cover.
It has to have extremely clear written that even if you wear glasses, but you don't have it happen that day, you can read it from far away.
The quality of the print, the text that's used, of course the commentary, all of that is top-notch.
But still, we don't feel like reading a book, so then we have to have a book circle.
The book circle has to be on very comfortable chairs like the one I'm sitting on, subhanAllah.
It has to be with a bunch of friends who we regard to be very intellectually stimulating to simply read a book.
So you have to take that book, and have someone speak about it, and take those lectures and talks, and very deep ones, but say, this is too long, who's gonna listen to this? So you have to slice it up and make it into small short clips.
But then who's going to listen to that unless you put a nice humming sound, some musical background sometimes, sometimes a nasheed, sometimes what? And then that's not sufficient enough.
