Does your Rav Really Know Who You Are?

Welcome, everybody, to tonight's shiur.

Mishnah four of the first Perek of Pirkei Avos.

So, uh, Mishnah says like this.

Mishnah says, "Yosi ben Yezer ish Tzedah ve'Yosi ben Yechanan ish Yerushalayim kiblu meihem." So we just had [lip smack] the last Mishnah, where Antignus ish Sukot was mekabel from Shimon HaTzadik.

And now we are segling in to the first peer, the first zugot, the first of the zugot.

And both of these men, their name was Yosi.

And the Mishnah, as we said last week, what's gonna happen here is each one is gonna sort of take his, his half of the equation and hi-his, uh, his side of the coin.

So Yosi ben Yezer, who was from Tzedah, he said the following.

Okay, this is the Mishnah, let's just read it.

He says, "Your house," I'll say this in English.

He says, "Your house should be a beis va-lahakamem," like a meeting house for hakhamem.

"And you should drink," um, "vemisadak baafar reglayim," "And you should become dusty in the dust of their feet, and you should drink their words with thirst." "Vehevei shaysah betzamah es divrehem." "You should drink their words with thirst." Okay? So he says, you should-- your house should be a place, a meeting place for the rabbis.

You should become dirty from the dust of their s- their feet, and you should drink thirstily their words.
