Budget crunches, look-alike products, and vendors that rarely talk to each other are making it harder than ever for school leaders to decide what to buy, and harder for EdTech companies to stand out…

A lot of school leaders were concerned about how we're going to maintain the infrastructure that they are bringing in.

So then when there is a big consolidation of all these companies and products, what happens to the teachers who have invested time and energy in building their curriculum? And how do we really support that? And I was on a panel for a vendor.

And I actually said, as a school leader, I'm thinking a lot about the identity crisis that now the teachers and educators are experiencing.

They do have a sense of responsibility, right? Because you are, after all, a teacher, right? Well, the structure with AI and technology is not allowing you to be easily the most knowledgeable person, whether you are a CEO or a leader or a school leader like me or a teacher.

And then there is that profound sense of loss of identity, right? As the most educated person.

And there is like almost this... grieving process that is happening in education.

And I think that is going to require a lot more emotional intelligence in the leaders, whether you're a school leader or even just a company leader, right? Like when you are supposed to be the most knowledgeable person in the room and you are not able to do that for a And then when your people who are following you are experiencing it, how are you going to support them and manage that? And I think that's the question that all leaders should be thinking about on top of the tech evolution.
But I think just kind of going back to one of the things you said around the consolidation and like, you're not alone.
When we go around these big expo halls, we're like, okay, so you do this, but just a little differently.
you do this one portion and they do this other portion and I need to purchase you both and hopefully you talk together.
But if you don't, and then like, what if he, one of you goes out of business, but I built my curriculum on this.
It's not like they're creating this like cohesive ecosystem unless they're a big brand like Cambium Learning or 3P or something and they've got like brands underneath them.
But it is just, I mean, how do we expect educators to navigate this, buyers to navigate this, especially with budget crunches? And, you know, we've got all this AI stuff that's confusing everyone of what to purchase.
