Sermon recording from October 11th, 2026 Sermon Notes and Devotional: https://pastors.ai/sermon/times-refreshing-resistance/
So the story, let's begin with, uh, some context.
What is the Beautiful Gate? It's on the eastern side of, uh, of the temple complex.
Now imagine Jerusalem, this city on a hill, uh, built, a l- this-- the whole city is built up and elevated.
So from the plains a great distance, the worshipers going to Jerusalem would see the city, and at night they would see the fires in the homes from a great distance.
This is the, is the third temple.
Some people call it the second.
The first temple was built by Solomon, and then it was destroyed in five eighty-six by the Babylonians.
And then Herod's temple, which is what we see in the story today, isn't really a third temple.
It was the second temple built, uh, remodeled, updated, and expanded.
The third temple, if you call it a third, was the largest of, of them, and it is the scene where we see the Beautiful Gate.
Acts one through three speak of the gate, and they tell us more about this beggar who was healed.
"And Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer," the ninth hour.
That's 3:00 in the afternoon.
There was, uh, 9:00 AM, 3:00 PM, and 6:00 PM.
"Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer," the ninth hour.
"And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called Beautiful Gate, to ask alms of those entering the temple.
Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms." He asked for, for an offering.
He asked for help.
So imagine, if you will, this beautiful grand temple.
And, uh, seated outside the entrance into the temple proper at the Beautiful Gate is this beggar.
