Welcome to this week's episode of Make it Plain. Kehinde opens up with an update about the Black Studies and shares that he has been served his papers. Pending one last appeal Black Studies is closed…
Um, I thought I should definitely give you an update on the Black studies situation.
As you know, BCU suggested, um, well, close the master's, close the undergrad, and, uh, suggested getting rid of three out of five of us, uh, Black members of staff who talk, teach Black studies.
Thank you everybody who's, uh, yeah, who signed the petition, who's got involved, et cetera, et cetera.
Uh, Kimberlé Crenshaw came and made a, made a statement, and that got, that got picked up by the media.
Lots and lots of pressure put on the university, but guess what? They ain't changed their minds at all.
Um, one of my colleagues took his le- uh, taken voluntary, and other colleagues also got notice of, uh, compulsory redundancy.
So three out of five of us at the end of the month, end of July, will be gone, uh, if the plan goes through.
So more than likely done, been packed up, shipped out, won't be at BCU any longer.
I should also say, look, I'm not gonna do the-- I'm not, so I'm not gonna go into it massively today.
There's lots and lots to bits, bits here that's just, that's for another time.
