And actually, I should say the book opens with a pretty crazy image, which is you see Talos and he is wounded, his blade is broken, and he's standing in the sheeting rain on the world of Tsagualsa.
He is clearly speaking to an mysterious Aeldari figure who wields this long, like, blade spear.
Above, a ship arrives and they try to shoot the Eldar, who clearly just darts away, you know, not taking any damage qu- like, quickly and speedily.
We learn that basically First Claw is dead.
Septimus and Octavia are within this ship and they are pleading for Talos to run.
He tells them, sort of like snarls at them to leave, and we learn at this point that Talos has released them from his service.
He tells them to run because Variel will one day come for the child.
Talos stands up and he goes down to hunt the Eldar who has killed his brothers.
And that's how they open the bloody novel [laughs].
So it just basically tells you the portents of doom, uh, is definitely coming.
Uh, so that's very, very fun.
And we'll have to, like, sort of mull about what's gonna happen there.
There's only one more-
It's a really, uh, it's a really great opening.
I, I really enjoy the opening, mainly because they do that one thing that a lot of, uh, books and movies do, where they show you the future, uh, but, and they allude to things.
Like Talos is like, "Oh, she killed my brothers, you know, I'm going after her," type thing.
But, uh, it obviously buries the lede, where in your brain you say to yourself, "Oh, this Eldar lady killed all of his brothers," and you don't really know how it all happens.
Uh, and then, uh, how it actually happens is, is different as it goes along.
Yeah.
It's a, I would almost say, like, it emotionally prepares you for the inevitable that will be coming up in the end of this novel.
It's quite a long journey that, uh, First Claw we've been following them for as well, so it's a bit, it's like, it's like an initial gut punch, I would definitely say.
The next flashback is actually way in, uh, 30K, so this is just post-Horus Heresy, and this is where the Night Lords, they are fleeing from Tsagualsa for the first time.
This is, well explains to us, the readers, that Curze has been dead at least a few years, so this is definitely in the event called the Scouring.
Uh, I think me and Rememberance have only...
We've actually covered the only book [laughs] the Scouring has had so far, so, you know, if they keep re- if they keep re- releasing them at, like, one book a year or something, we'll be doing this for bloody 20 years at this point.
