Repent and believe the good news.' As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother, Andrew, casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

'Come follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will send you out to fish for people.' At once, they left their nets and followed Him.

When He'd gone a little farther, He saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother, John, in a boat preparing their nets.

Without delay, He called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men and followed Him." So in thinking about being a disciple of Christ, where better to start than here on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, where some young fishermen heard Jesus of Nazareth said to them, "Follow me." I'd like us to hear that call again in our hearts right now.

Along comes Jesus and says, "Follow me," and their world changes in an instant.

Now, in this call, we can see that the heart of the Christian experience is one in which we embrace the teaching of Jesus, but also His life.

The call, it doesn't just mean, "Listen to me." It doesn't just mean, "Do what I do." It means, "Enter into my life and my experience.

Come and be with me." So He's going to lead them into His life, which is a pattern of self-denial, of taking up the cross as the pathway to life.

Matthew 16, "Then Jesus told His disciples, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.'" Now, what I want us to think about is, where does this following take us? And [clears throat] I want us to realize that it takes us away beyond just an external imitating of a rabbi achieved by drinking in his message or watching his actions, because that's how it would've been if the call, "Follow me," had come from just another human being.
