Season 6 | Episode 22 In this episode Jez speaks to Steve Tibbert, former pastor of Kings Church London and leader of New Frontiers, a global family of churches. They discuss his recent transition…
Steve TibbertGuestJezHostI want to look at how we can... help give encouragement to pastors in growing churches to help ensure that their churches don't get stuck in seasons of growth and we don't get you know fixed in one particular way of leading that works for say 200 but won't work for a thousand or whatever it is so i'm kind of so much we come on to that let's start with one of the questions then i often start with those
what's one of the the key things that you feel god's spoken to you about or you feel like you've learned as a leader recently it's

a good question i i mean so many things isn't there i mean you're I think you have to continually have an attitude of learning.

And in this sense, in some ways, the more experience you get, that becomes a greater challenge.

But the things I'm learning at the moment, I was very impacted by Steve Kuss' book, what is it called? Managing Leadership Anxiety.

But as it gets bigger, and particularly, I think, through a New Frontiers lens, just massive, you know, four or five thousand churches.

you know, 90 nations, how you communicate change has to be really thought through.

Uh, and this phrase that people react to process, not content is fascinating because I think most of the time pastors are thinking about content.

They're thinking like, what am I preaching? and, but to lead a church healthily, you need great leadership and great teaching.

I mean, people forget I did most of the preaching for the first 10, 15 years, but anyway, um, the point you can preach, you have to be able to preach.

Uh, but I think that has been one of the learnings more recently that, The process is important.

So you can even make the right decision, but how you communicate it, you can lose.

It's like when you're married, you can be right, but the way you say it has a big impact.

Something I'm learning at the moment, in fact, I have very occasionally had some coaching.

So I would think over that last 20 years I've met up with a coach Three times.
