Catford

The story of this church, many of you know it starts here.

you know, one meeting in Catford, King's Church, Catford, one meeting.

And then it continues to expand and grow.

So we have another meeting, two meetings.

He says enlarge the tent that more may come into it.

We want to make space for people, church.

You know, in the last year, we served around 2,600 hot meals at our ministry, the feast on Wednesday nights at Catford.

You praise the Lord for that.

I walk down the street all the time and I've lived in some real shitholes.

I've lived in Catford, which people will know is a place that you don't want to walk through at two, three o'clock in the morning, especially if you're a woman.

And well, look, as I say, the irony is not lost, but London is fallen.

It is a dying city and it's a beautiful city and it's an amazing city.

And I think probably maybe bits of Britain are different.

I mean, there's a bloke down the road in Catford who's keeping a couple of XL bully dogs in a makeshift cage he's constructed in the multi-storey car park out of barriers.

And no one seems to fucking

care.

yes yes i find i work better there or quite often i go to the gym which has a nice big cafe and i quite like a little low level chat you can people watch yes or sometimes people listen sometimes I do listen and write down what people are up to so yeah

and then she'll text me which is delightful I'm like oh she's at the gym again

what's he saying now oh or just on the bus there was an amazing conversation that day where this woman was having on the bus to Catford and this woman was going you never believe what he's done now he's broke my shopping trolley I know the one that matches my ankle bracelet and she was absolutely livid and then she rang Colin going Colin you've broke my shopping trolley the one that matches my ankle bracelet oh And I was just, oh, that's a gift.

I go open mics and there'd be no one in the audience but there'd be people going, oh, look at you, Catford.

You're not enjoying this, are you, Catford? It's like there's one bloke.

He's not a representative of this part of London.

LAUGHTER But yeah, it's the influence thing.

Um, going back, the 19th of September, I forgot we are doing a yarn swap, so a swap event.

Uh, I'm based in southeast London, so that's gonna be in Catford here.

And then on the 7th, 8th, November, we are going to Manchester.

I saw this.

People can just drop things off there, uh, and grab anything else that sparks new inspiration.

So yeah, so that's gonna be happening.

And we're gonna be doing a local, a sewing swap around, back around Catford at the end of the autumn, around November, end of November.

So yeah, lots of things going on.

I won't have the thing of people going, I'm still a DJ, which has happened more times than I would like.

So, yeah, so it's still a case of really, if you just could kind of tell me about where you grew up and what your early musical memories were.

Yeah, so I grew up in South East London in a place called Catfords.

So my family are Jamaican.

So we've got a really strong musical Jamaican background.
