And so zooming back out a little ways, you know, hazardous material, or HAZMAT for short, is any type of biological or chemical or radiological, any type of physical substance that poses an unreasonable risk to health, to safety, to property, or our environment.

That is what hazardous material or HAZMAT is defined as, okay? And so it's, it's basically anything that causes risk of harm to, um, humans, our health, or our environment in which we live, or the things that we have, which is property, or puts us in danger from a safety perspective.

So it's these things or chemicals or-- that cause danger, okay? That is what hazardous materials is defined as.

And so when we define or, uh, try to understand what is the danger, we have different classifications to, to know a little bit more about what the hazardous material is.

You know, hazardous materials, um, typically fall into different categories, and these categories are, uh, uh, typically, depending on the purpose, um, have these classifications associated with them.

And the classification tells what type of hazardous material it is and because of it, what kind of danger, uh, it, it, it provides.

And then along those lines, based on the classification type, it would require special handling, special labeling, special, um, protective, uh, pro, uh, protective wear or equipment, PPE, to protect, uh, the humans that are dealing with the transportation or disposal or removal of this hazardous material.

There's about nine-- there's nine main classifications as defined by, um, the DOT or y- y- the US DOT, Department of Transportation, and that's because the hazardous materials have to be moved from one place to the other to move that danger away from where it's causing most harm to humans' health and our environment and our, our property and causing danger, uh, affecting our safety, and so they have to be moved.

And so in the removal, in, in the removal process, they have to be classified, and then they have to be labeled so that people will know what they are as they're being moved to be able to take the safety precautions necessary to protect themselves.

And in case a mishap happens along the way while they're being moved, they-- somebody knows what they are.

And then, of course, upon receipt to wherever they're being moved to, um, they need to be quickly identified to know what type of hazard they are providing or danger they're providing, uh, based on what the material is.

'Cause once it's, it's-- that material is put in its special packaging Then from the outside, without these labels, you may not have an easy, uh, ways of identifying them.

So other than the labeling, which gives you some broad and, and general quick details just by the way they look on the label, then there's SDS sheets or safety data sheets that are provided that give a lot more detail as to, uh, what the hazard is, uh, or hazards in that case, and how they should be handled, especially in the case of mishaps.

So again, hazardous material sh- uh, in short is called HAZMAT, is any biological, chemical, radiological, or physical substance that poses an unreasonable risk to health, safety, property, and our environment.
