A new poll of New Mexico commercial real estate professionals finds strong support for redevelopment of Albuquerque's international district, particularly investment in the state fairgrounds.
The poll from the Commercial Real Estate Development Association found the most popular options for attracting investment were major sports or entertainment development, new retail, and restaurants, and also mixed-use office space.
The finding comes after the state fairground district board voted to advance a first phase that includes a sports stadium and mixed-income housing.
The state plans to invest about $200 million in the project, which is expected to generate roughly $5.7 million in annual tax revenue.
The Development Association members say the investment could create momentum for additional private development and help transform the international district.
