Cindy Nava

You ready for this, for this conversation? We're gonna talk about from opportunity to influence, what happens when higher education opens the doors.

And my guests, to my immediate right, this is hot off the press, the newly elected majority whip for the state senate, Senator Cindy Nava represents District 9 in the New Mexico State Senate.

She started at Santa Fe Community College, earned two degrees at the University of New Mexico, went on to serve in Washington.

In 2024, she made history when she won her seat as a former da- former DACA rec- DACA recipient.

Uh, Senator, tell us about the new team.

You've got Cindy Nava as the new majority whip, and the caucus reelected Leo Jaramillo as caucus chair.

The caucus nominated Senator Mimi Stewart to continue to serve as president pro tem, but that will require a, a vote of the entire chamber, correct?

That is correct.

Final item, the Democrats in the New Mexico Senate, they had to meet recently to find new leadership because Senator Peter Wirth is not retiring from the legislature, just from Senate Majority Leader, and they have embraced Linda Trujillo from Santa Fe as the new Senate Majority Leader.

Senator Cindy Nava is the new majority whip.

Other members of the Democrats leadership team in the Senate include Mimi Stewart and Leo Jaramillo.

I would say that this is a very status quo situation.
