And between Medina and the place where this battle took place, there's a distance of 10 days.

So on the way back from Muta, when Sahaba r.a arrived to Muta, Rasulullah s.a.w. was informed that some people from the tribe of Qudaa are trying to attack and planning to launch an attack on Madinah Munawwarah.

Rasulullah s.a.w. said, He sent a message calling Amr ibn al-As radiyallahu ta'ala anhu.

Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he sends a message calling Amr ibn al-As radiyallahu anhu and tells him that I'm going to send an army with you.

And Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam says to Amr ibn al-As radiyallahu anhu, You're going to be the leader of this army.

And I'm hoping that that wealth comes into your hands and I'd love to see you as a person with a lot of wealth.

Amr ibn al-Asra radiyallahu anhu responds by saying, O Messenger of Allah, I did not accept Islam to become wealthy.

And Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he corrected him and said, Amr, how good is wealth in the hands of a pious person? Nimal maal, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, wealth is, when it comes in the hands of a pious person, is actually considered a good thing because he's going to put it to good use.

And then Nabi ﷺ appointed 300 muhajireen and ansar to go with him to follow up with the people of Qudaa and to deal with them.

Amr ibn al-Asa r.a, he leaves with the small group of 300 sahaba r.a and they arrive by a spring.
