Why We Give - Jemima Varughese - 14 June 2026

I don't know about you, but this voice talks to me and seems to try and get my focus and my distract, and distracts me from what God [laughs] has for me.

And in Matthew 6, Jesus talks about this.

He says, "No one can serve two masters," Matthew 6:24, "for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.

You cannot serve God and Mammon." What is Mammon? Well, the Bible dictionary talks about Mammon being earthly goods, property, and wealth.

That's not evil, but there is a spirit that's attached to that that can make it evil, and this spirit can talk to us.

This voice talked to me on the way to church today.

I get a text message on a Sunday from a shop, and the text title was Must-Haves 25% Off.

[laughs] I'm starting to think about how I must have these sweaters and these shirts.

[laughs] I must have.

It's speaking, "You must have." Wait a minute.

What am I doing? This is Miracle Offering season.

It just comes and talks to us.

There are secular websites you can go to who will describe Mammon to you, describe how you can do a deal with Mammon, how you can summon the spirit of Mammon.

You can go to temples in different lands where you can do deals with Mammon and give offerings to Mammon, and he will promise you wealth.

However, there is a big price to pay.

In the Miracle Offering ad, Pastor Mark talks about why we give.

He gives these four key statements.

And as I was watching these statements, I was hearing the voice of Mammon come back at these statements, and we wanna talk about it today and bring light to it.

He says that we give to honor God.

Yeah.

When we give, we are honoring God.

We are showing He is first in our life, that He is our passion, He is our God.

And Mammon can't stand that.

He cannot stand it when we honor God with our finances.

Mammon will talk and say, "No, no, no, no.
