Generosity is more than what we give. It begins with recognizing that everything we have belongs to God and has been entrusted to us. Pastor Banning Liebscher challenges us to live open handed…
Banning LiebscherHostBut two weeks ago, we started this, and we talked about the concept, if you've done any renovation or if you've done construction in a house or a building, you would understand the concept of load-bearing walls, that there are load-bearing walls, and you don't mess with those.
You leave them alone because load-bearing walls are the things in a structure that are holding up what's above them, the second floor, the roof.
And if you mess with those, the building, the structure itself is either going to begin to sag, it's going to begin to get cracks, or it's just going to crumble.
What I mean by that is there are some truths that are actually foundational in nature, and when they're in place, they hold up other parts of your life.
In the Christian life, one of the load-bearing truths in your life is this issue of generosity.
When you get it wrong, things begin to sag, break down, fracture, and crumble.
And the mark of a Christian, you're a disciple of Jesus, a follower of Jesus, and you're a son or a daughter.
The mark of a child of God, the mark of a disciple should be a life of radical generosity.
He says, whatever I funneled your way freely, make sure you go do the same thing and give that away.
God gives to us and it comes through us to other people that we're to live generously.
But also in this process, generosity is so important because generosity is connected to the concept of sowing seeds.
