What does it actually look like when a doctor refuses to give up on a patient, even when the statistics say there's nothing left to do? In this episode of Integrative Cancer Solutions, Dr. K sits…
William NelsonGuestMichael KarlfeldtHostAnd then you have the category, because I want to just people understand naturopathic medicine.
And so here you have then DOs, medical doctors, and they go through a functional medicine course.
So what would you say would be the difference between functional medicine and naturopathic medicine?

I've done some functional medical training way back when we were in medical school.

So they're doing testing probably much more than the standard conventional doc is doing, where they do a CBC, CMP, maybe a couple tumor markers.

But they're also including other types of metabolic testing, maybe stool test, maybe heavy metal, looking at mycotoxins.

And a naturopath is also going to look, in addition to those things, we're using all the data from advanced testing.

They're also going to really look at, are there other things that wouldn't lend itself to a number on a piece of paper? And that would include, what is that person's history and background? When was the last time they felt well? Did they have some sort of a mental emotional trauma as a child, or they're dealing with some...

some stress that wouldn't be able to be ascertained on a piece of paper with numbers on it so we're looking at that you know it's kind of a cliche but the whole person and so we know the the effects whether they be negative or positive with the mental emotional spiritual stress and i think a naturopath is going to look at that but then we also we include i think a lot of um methods therapies that go back you know back to the german history with the way naturopathic medical practice developed and that is the use of hydrotherapy and the import of not just what you're eating with macronutrients and the numbers and calories, but also making sure that the sources of the things you're eating are organic and as best as you can.

And so what that means is eating the best thing and the best source of food, but making sure, one, that you digest that food.

and then what you digest you absorb and then what you what's left over you eliminate and so that's your gi and then making sure your among trees the liver the kidney breathing sweating you're getting rid of toxins and supporting those processes and then doing that in a way that that isn't always having to use medicine repurposed drugs or supplements is sometimes just figuring out how to unleash the body's natural healing and getting that you know encouraging that so how you can return someone to health sometimes without the use of so many meds and I've one of the things I find with my cancer patients is is because of the just enormous amount of information and they're out using, you know, Dr. Google for, and now they're using AI, is they come in and they have cancer and they're taking 20 supplements.

And like how a person can one, you know, swallow that many capsules, but so many of them may be redundant.

And I think rather than adding more, finding ways to ensure that the things they are taking are the things that are most helpful for their particular situation.

And so better and more targeted would be an improvement over 30 supplements.
