In this episode, Inji and Emma dive into corruption at a never-before-seen scale from the Trump administration. From red cards to glaring red flags, they cover some of the biggest corruption scandals…
First, what are some of the biggest corruption scandals to come out of this administration? Two, why have things gotten so bad so quickly? And three, what can we do and how do we reverse the cycle?
Yeah, so let's go ahead and jump into it because...
As you are probably well aware, this is kind of a big topic.
And not just because we've referenced it all the time, but because this administration really is one of the most corrupt, if not the most corrupt, in all of American history and across the world stage.
There are a couple of different reasons.
types, for lack of a better term, of corruption, different flavors of corruption that we've seen come out of this administration.
And I think because we don't have time to list off every single thing that the Trump administration has done, we are just going to focus on the biggest ones.
And those all kind of fall into either personal corruption, so Trump's personal finances the way he shaped his self-image and corruption that has gone into that then his family corruption again mostly focused on the financial success but also like the job holdings of his family and close circle of people that he's related to and then this kind of greater circle of how he has made trades with companies and with other people that he sees as his friends and so For all of the corrupt things that we get into going forward, they're going to fall into one of those categories and we'll try to tagline them for you to understand a little bit better.
And I watched this really interesting video from The New Yorker where a staff writer basically went through and calculated all the money made directly off of the presidency in this term, and it came out to be about $3.4 billion, which is probably an underestimate and also is only stuff that was made directly off the presidency, but there's definitely stuff that came because of the power but wasn't as direct maybe.
yeah absolutely and i mean i think i think one off and just a very simple way to jump into it with the with a specific example is as of july 1st his financial disclosure reports revealed that trump's income jumped to 2.2 billion dollars in 2025 and 1.4 billion of those came from new cryptocurrency related businesses So this issue of crypto, which we've seen kind of spiral into a big, very disorganized and very prime for corruption market, is definitely something that he's taking advantage of.
Yeah, some of the ways that we've seen that is first, there's a crypto company called World Liberty Financial that the Trump family owns 75% of.
And then basically, we've seen some very shady transactions going through World Liberty Financial, including a $500 million investment from the United Arab Emirates to the Trump affiliated company, That then came conspicuously at the same time that the Trump administration decided to reverse the Biden-era ban on AI chip exports to the UAE, which is very interesting.
He even made a meme coin where he made $385 million selling meme coins and like they're worthless.
But basically he auctioned off that like the top 200 holders of his meme coin could come to dinner with him.
