But, um, I, in my second book, I Can Fix This, wrote about this, and I made a video about it, and we may have talked about it, I feel like maybe on the podcast before, about the whole idea of selfless.
How, you know, I grew up with my grandmother, my mother too, but especially my grandmother, just being praised for being selfless.
She cleans everything." Uh, my grandfather was a pastor of a church, so she was a pastor's wife, and every Sunday after church, she would have somebody over from the church for lunch.
She would barely sit down 'cause she kept getting up to make sure, "Oh, do you need salt? Do you need this? Do you need that? Do you need that?" Serving everybody, and then lunch was done, and my grandpa went and took his nap, and the guests left, and my grandma was in the kitchen cleaning everything and washing everything.
Like, do you need help? Do you need a break? Do you need..." What people said, and this is me as a little child, like three, four years old hearing this, "Wow, you're so selfless.
You're so selfless." So from a young age, I'm brainwashed to believe, oh, serving, serving, serving, taking care of everybody else, cooking, cleaning, not for a second thinking about me, not for a second taking a break, a nap.
And so what I wrote in my second book is that I, I decided that s- being selfless should not be a compliment.
