The playoffs are HERE and we’re getting into everything that’s caught our eye so far - the biggest storylines, standout performances, teams making noise and the questions we still have heading into…
Okay, so at the time of filming, Caitlin Clark's first signature Nike shoe has officially been released, the Caitlin 1.
And obviously, it's just a basketball shoe, but I think there's bigger conversation here because when you buy a signature shoe, you're not just buying a shoe.
You're buying into an athlete, into their story, identity, style.
Um, and sometimes people are buying into a sport that they might not even know that much about.
Mm.
Um, so it got me thinking, you know, if you weren't a basketball fan, what would make you buy a basketball player's signature shoe?
Mm.
Like, you know, is it because you love Caitlin Clark? Is it because you think the shoe looks good? Does anyone care about the technology, or do you see someone wearing them and think, "Okay, you know, they're good"? What are we buying when we buy a signature shoe? Are we buying the shoe, the athlete, or the story?
Obviously you're representing, you're putting another person's signature product on your body.
You're purchasing that.
It's something that is gonna be seen, whether you're wearing it, like, as sportswear or if you're playing basketball, pickup, whatever.
People are gonna see that and they're gonna recognize it.
Um, so there has to be recognition of the fact that you are purchasing it on behalf of an athlete.
So I think anytime you buy, like, a personality's product, you should feel like you're aligned and you like them or you believe in what they do.
The other thing is, is that I know a lot of people wanna support athletes that they think are good people or have left marks in their community.
Um, I know for, like, the, the A1s, um, like, the AKA sorority came out in full force.
So I think it's, it's both.
And then, you know, there are things like the Sabrinas are a really great performance shoe, and we've seen that from athletes talking about it themselves.
So I think it could be all three.
I don't know if you're really a, um, not a basketball fan and a super fan of a player.
I don't know if you can really separate those two.
I think that would be a really unique perspective.
That's ...
