Dr. Andrew McDermid is a historian working on the financial and cultural impact of a tontine in Britain and Ireland, with wider interests in early modern Britain, Ireland and the colonies, particularly the history of money and financial revolutions.

He is currently the principal investigator of a four-year research Ireland project, Forgotten Funding, Tontine and its Cultural and Societal Impact on Britain and Ireland, 1693-1900. which explores this largely overlooked financial scheme and its influence on society, culture and public life.
