(00:00) Hey Tablo Life Advice Begins (00:29) āI Canāt Escape Your Song Animeā (01:15) Procrastination and the Fear of Failure (03:38) Why Not Trying Is Also a Failure (04:42) Hey Tablo, Failureā¦
I have big dreams that I want to achieve, but I keep getting stuck in cycles of procrastination.
Specifically, I want to go to med school.
but I'm always studying last minute for my exams and not seeking out extracurricular activities.
I know that I'm procrastinating because there is some underlying fear I have of failure and trying to avoid that in my life.
I really want to change and become better, but I feel like I either give myself too much grace or I'm too hard on myself.
Okay, procrastination is a huge problem everyone deals with, right? I don't.
Let me just get that out there.
I don't and I am grateful every day that I was born this way.
Like I do not procrastinate.
I will do things that I don't have to do for like months.
I will just do them right now if I can, if I have time.
The reason why I throw that out there is I feel like I'm able to not procrastinate because I do not have a fear of failure.
Like my relationship with the concept of failure is that shit, it can happen.
And shit happens, right? Like failure is just...
a part of life like it will happen most of the time right um like i'll try out for things and you know i'll get rejected for like 90 of them right and that's how i've always been like in high school i tried out for so many different varsity teams i didn't make a single varsity team all four years i tried out every year for tennis i tried out every year for um like soccer i didn't get i you know, I didn't get picked up for any of the teams.
I was JV like senior year, okay? That's pathetic.
But what I'm saying is I still kept at it because I was like, you know, it's, yeah, but what if you don't make it? Most likely I won't.
You know, it's just, they can't have a hundred people on that team, right? So some of us are gonna get cut and that might be me, right? The fact that this, you who left this comment, the fact that you have identified the cause of procrastination is something to be applauded.
Most people don't know why they procrastinate.
They just put words like lazy or whatever to it, and they can't figure it out, right? They say, oh, I'm distracted, I can't focus.
But you said it perfectly.
You have some underlying fear of failure, right? that you're trying to avoid.
And by not doing it, your brain is thinking that you can avoid that failure by simply not even trying, right? By simply putting it off.
But that's a failure in it on its own.
That's like a failure in itself, right? A failure to move, a failure to like to act because this weird underlying fear of actually nothing, right? I think if you embrace that failure as a part of your day-to-day, it's much easier to try things and to do things.
