Failure

So how do you for folks who are listening, who will never have a startup of their own but could benefit from learning, you know, how to cultivate innovation in their lives? Well, what's maybe a piece of advice you would you would give them?

And, you know, Failure is such a tricky thing.

I think we should celebrate failure, but failure feels so awful

when you're in

So you want to kick it off? Let's do it.

I've always been intrigued by this because most people think that Failure is what we try to avoid.

But I've seen to myself and other people sometimes that when you have your first little bit of success, even, it can mess with your head, you know? Like, oh, all of a sudden there's a pressure there that was never there.

I heard Glenn Hansard talk about this great Irish singer that just passed away.

Encourage them to embrace dialectics and progress using a decisional balance chart.

Failure.

There are positives to failure.

Relationships, reactions, whatever.

The word of God says that weeping only endures for the night, but joy is going to come in the morning.

Do not let grief Failure persuades you that success is impossible.

One chapter in your life is not the entire book.

Your story is still being written.

... j- John Maxwell has a new book, uh, Getting a Return On Failure.

Mm-hmm.

He has one prior to that called Failing Forward.

I have this, uh, challenge coin here.

Uh, my, uh, one of my best keeper gave it to me.

On one side it says, "Success," the other side, "Failure," uh, really success and failure being two side of the same coin.

Sure.

He's a Guggenheim Fellow, a member of the advisory committee for the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He's also the author of books Ignorance and Failure, and he lives in New York City, and he has a new book out.

It's called It Could Be Otherwise.

There it is.

Yeah.

Failure is just data.

Yeah.

I like that.

Yeah, and what did I do wrong? Ego was too big, or I didn't have enough cash, or I structured that raise wrong, or I didn't have a 96-page operating agreement that contemplated all the bad things that can happen in the partnership.

And so when you do it again, you do it smarter.

Failure is just data, and then you do it again, you do it smarter.

And so if you do it 10 times, then the odds start going in your favor.
