Gunday Brunch 257: The State of the Optics Industry

One of the things that I have noticed about Sealy as a brand, and this is coming from me as an outside consumer, is that there are a lot of red dot manufacturers that are manufactured in China that will do everything within their power to obfuscate that information that to hide that from you to make them think make you know and you know they won't go so far as to actually lie which is well actually some of them will

but

we're not gonna talk about that um but what one of the things that i appreciate is that you guys are very upfront about your point of origin you know you're not at no point at least in my awareness of the brand have you guys ever been like no we're like you know part like we put we we Glue two stickers to the optic in the United States so it's assembled in America or whatever, right? And I think that's...

But here's the thing.

I think that's important for two reasons.

Like, one, anybody who has listened to this podcast for the last year, anybody who has followed me on social media knows that I am notoriously an Aimpoint and Trijicon snob.

And I am very, very upfront about it.

But also...

I if an optic is going to deliver value, if an optic is going to be sourced outside of, you know, the United States, I really, really want that company to be upfront about where that sourced.

You know, don't piss on my shoes and tell me it's raining and don't put it in a box in Texas and tell me it's made in America when it's made in a factory in China.

There's nothing necessarily wrong.

There's nothing wrong with making an optic in China.

What I have a problem with is when companies try to hide that fact.

Listen, half of everything I own outside of the gun space is made in China.

My fucking fridge is made in China.

This mic that I'm talking to you in is made in China.

I'm pretty sure both of my phones are made in

China.

The computer that I'm recording this on.

Our economy is so deeply intertwined with the Chinese export economy that The idea of avoiding something solely because it's made in China is I mean, it's you know, look, also, if I could buy only things made in America, that would be awesome.

But that's not realistic in today's economy.

And even my favorite optics are made in Sweden.

So, you know, I'm not, you know,

all that.
