We're reacting to the trailer for the new Twelve Tribes documentary — and the parallels to our own experiences hit hard. Sam grew up FLDS and Melissa grew up mainstream LDS, so we both know what…
there we go.
Well,
there we
go.
As most every group or cult, whatever you call them, it's all surrounding around one person who claims to talk for God, who claims to have all of the information you would ever need for your salvation and happiness.
I do think it's interesting that they use the term the gospel because certain cult leaders will say that they have something in addition or maybe they are the Messiah.
But specifically, Joseph Smith like did also claim to receive like the gospel, right? Like the fullness of God's church on earth.
And a lot of times it confuses people sometimes when Mormons will get up and in their testimonies will say, I'm so grateful for the gospel.
And when they're saying they're grateful for the gospel, it's not like the rest of Christianity that's looking at the gospels written by like Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
And I was like, yeah, but when you are bearing your testimony, like as a young Mormon kid, like when we talk about the gospel, we're talking about the gospel that's revealed in the Mormon church.
At least that's what I was taught.
What were you considered the gospel? The
The Mormon church, like it was a branch of the mainstream Mormon church.
So the gospel is still talked about a lot.
And that was once again, like you said, similar.
It was the gospel as in the truthfulness of the church on the earth today.
Yeah.
And that was referred to as the gospel.
I believe it was the same.
But I still think even when we called it the gospel of Jesus Christ, I still feel like we weren't specifically talking about the Bible or the stories of Christ from what other people or like mainstream Christianity would consider the gospels.
Like that's not what we're referring to.
We're referring to the fact that You believe that Mormonism is Christ's church and that he's at the head of it.
there we go.
