Send us Fan Mail Have you heard of Dryvebox? Today we sit down with Rob and Stephen, Founders of the business that is mobilising golf and promoting a culture where golf is provided for everyone…
Rob DrakeGuestNeilHostWhat, what's made the difference?
Um, and I think there's just been a, a massive shift and, you know, obviously I think COVID and the pandemic had a-A sort of degree of, uh, you know, help with that in terms of actually being an activity that people could do.
Um, but I think there's a, a, a huge amount of drivers as well, and I think you can almost split it into kind of, sort of drivers that are pushing, you know, new entrants to the sport, and then also some of the drivers that are kind of, you know, really helping things like Sim Golf kind of with existing golfers.
And I think if you take new golfers, um, you know, again, going back to that point that I think golf now is kind of seen as cool, I think you've got a lot of social media now, a lot of, uh, content, uh, on YouTube, um, you know, a lot of social media content creators, and, you know, you're seeing a lot of athletes as well playing it, and I think that's just really sort of opened it up to kind of sort of kids, to women, um, to a lot of people that, uh, you know, hadn't played golf before, and, you know, sort of thinking, "Actually, I kind of want to give it a go."
It's really exciting, though, for me to see, having played golf for 50 years now, to be able to see, as I grew up and had, you know, my heroes as Seve and Faldo, and now seeing guys who are influencers as well.
And, but also, we were chatting with the R&A and how they've changed, um, and how they're embracing it as well.
And I think you have to because it's commercial, right? It, it-
Um, and if you can get more money coming into a sport and more people playing the sport, from a governance perspective, that's what they're looking for.
So it's adapting as well, isn't it?
And I think what you're doing here with Drivebox is, is just perfect for, for that whole generational change-
... from that very demographic, which could have said, "Oh, it's boring.
It's for old men.
It's for old people," forever.
Now we're sat at a festival in Canary Wharf in the middle of London, waiting for 1,500 people to come in with the Masters in the background, and just the, you know, new clothing, new lines.
