Kimi Antonelli \*almost* clinched the 2026 World Driver's Championship...but didn't quite get there at the United States Grand Prix.In today's episode, Kathryn breaks down:-How Lewis Hamilton and…
But the Mercedes did not show the greatest amount of pace in practice compared to another team, a red team, perhaps.
But that quali lap was phenomenal.
No one could beat that quali lap, even the likes of Max Verstappen, who has been a beast in qualifying over the last few races.
He couldn't beat that lap.
And then Kimi just ran away with it.
And I was watching the race with a friend of mine, one of the friends who I watched the Formula One movie with last year.
who is entertained by motorsport but doesn't know nearly as much as i do because i know way too much about formula one even if i don't know everything and i'm not claiming and everything but at one point he turns to me he says are we ever gonna see that antonelli guy again i'm like They'll show him crossing the finish line.
But until such time, no, we're really not going to see this guy for a while, which we didn't because Kimmy was having a nice Sunday drive through the hills of the Circuit of the Americas track complex.
And he was on his own.
And really, that was a battle for for a while.
It was a battle for P2.
And then it turned into a battle for P3.
And then it turned into a nothing because of a Valtteri Bottas DNF for the millionth time this season.
But Kimi Antonelli is currently 123 points up on George Russell, who is currently sitting in P2 and is so close to clinching.
He actually got very close to making it happen today.
As we remember, he needed Lewis Hamilton to finish P5 and he needed George Russell to finish P9 or lower for both of them.
But Lewis finished P4 and George finished P8.
So both drivers finished one place off of where they needed to finish in order for Kimi to win the championship today.
A lot closer than expected.
Also, I really expected the Red Bull to... do a little bit more today at the very least on max's side but still a podium is a podium the championship is moving on to mexico city where we are going this upcoming weekend and he is two points away from clinching the championship so basically instead of like kimmy needs to do this but so and so needs to do this this and this All Kimi needs to do is finish in P9 or better, and he wins the championship.
So it's a lot more straightforward than it was this weekend, and which did turn out to almost be the thing.
