GoalieMasks101: Every Mask Has a Story
Sep 21, 2026 · 21 min · 8 segments
In this episode we sit down with Brendan from StewMask Airbrush. We chat with Brendan about working with the incredible artist Jordan Bourgeault, as well as his first mask for an NHL goaltender…
So if you had to design a dream mask for yourself, what would it be and why?
I always like when masks have something on top of them, like an animal or a head or some kind of a creature.
I feel like it turns the goalie into that a little bit.
So
true.
So I would definitely put some kind of a bear or wolf or something on top.
Yeah.
I've been really liking kind of that speckled splatter look.
Name across the chin is always just that really nice, super bold personal touch.
You know, it's your either your name or go even further with nickname.
And then if it was for myself, but other whatever men's league team or or ball hockey team that we're playing for.
Nice.
I like that.
That sounds great.
All of those things are definitely elements that I enjoy seeing on a mask as well.
So I feel like that would be a fan favorite.
So what advice would you want to give for aspiring artists or goalies or just for anyone listening?
Don't be hesitant to try new things with masks.
One thing that I'm always struggling with is it's not just limited to an airbrush, like those kind of things.
It's predominantly airbrushing, but there is a little other mixed media elements.
And to reach out to other artists and build the community, especially like I've seen some young aspiring artists starting to take it on and I'm like, I just want to tell them any advice they need if it's problematic for them because it can be helpful to anybody.
And I had that, so I want to provide that.
Yeah.
It's always good to receive advice and give advice and just create the community that we see we have.
