Football Fever Cup Edition: Last-gasp madness and a Kane masterclass

Can we start with the early game? England 2, DR Congo 1 in Atlanta.

Basically, Brownie, England are still in the tournament because of Harry Kane.

He scored twice in the last 15 minutes to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

It would have been one of the biggest humiliations in England World Cup history and there's a bit of a crowded field there.

Thomas Tuchel would have been gone.

None of that happened because of Harry Kane.

How good is this guy?

Yeah, Harry Kane 2, DR Congo 1, isn't it, really? I mean, he was, he is that influential for this English side.

And if they are going to win the World Cup, and I don't think they will, but if they are, you know that he will be the main reason for it because he is the best player in that team.

And, you know, he was phenomenal when he needed to be.

You know, shout out to the assists, Anthony Gordon, you know, coming off the bench, two assists for him.

today um but yeah just critical and and to come at that late stage you know 75 minutes in where was the goal coming the the Congo keeper had been magnificent you know certainly made three or four absolute clutch saves and you just thought that you know gee this was going to be another one of those early exits and yep the end of the managerial career with England for Thomas Tuchel but up steps you know that man is it 84 now Paine you'd be the one with the stats but uh He is a goal-scoring freak.

He scored over 70 goals this year, or this season, with Bayern Munich and also internationals.

Just remarkable.

So where does he sit now, Brownie? I mean, there have been some very, very good English strikers.

We talk about the likes of Bobby Charlton and Geoff Hurst going back a bit.

Then we come forward to the likes of Michael Owen, Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney.

Harry Kane's gone past all of them in terms of his goal output.

That's only one metric, though.

He has to be near the top, doesn't he?

He does, you know, all-round forwards, and Bobby Charlton was before my time, you know, and a lot would say Bobby Charlton was perhaps the greatest in terms of his all-round ability.

In terms of finishing, though, I think Kane is definitely number one.

As a striker, if you're going to say out-and-out goal scorer, who do you want on your team? And I think he's the guy probably you'd pick if you pick as a striker.

And a leader too, because he just carries that team, doesn't he? Just through sheer force of will.

And I guess teams that have a player like that in their side, like Norway with Haaland, like Argentina with Messi, like France without five or six guys at the moment.
