Today we are talking about the "true love" that I was privileged to experience, with my husband of 30 years. We met as young hippies, in West Berlin in 1970, and lived together there. Our lives took…
Kristine van DoorenHostNaomiGuestone that's wondering you know you as a couple how you guys were yeah um we had a phase where we did a Bible study together on all of the different incidences in the new Testament and the old Testament of people who had been healed
and
how they had prayed and fasted or other people had come and prayed for them.
And we were kind of torn between this idea of you shouldn't get sick or die as a Christian.
And on the other hand, the Bible is full of suffering, you know, and he was reading the story of Job.
So we were reading all these different types of people and their life stories.
And probably around that early time is when he was always then saying, trust in the lord lean not unto your own to your lean not unto your own understanding i remember that became a family motto i have it on a scripture on the wall
yeah
and um you know so he was he but he was also saying it for himself you know encouraging himself trust in the lord and all things work together according to god's plan for those who love god yeah and um so it's always about you know whether it's the person who's sick or the family that's involved in the situation it's you know everything always comes back to do we trust god or do we not trust god yeah
Yeah.
I remember one time he quoted one of the, there's a scripture that says that the one who is sick and suffering refrains from sin.
And I remember him telling, telling girls one time, almost even joking, you know, while he was in pain saying, well, At least I'm not sinning right now.
That's true.
But he meant it seriously.
And I mean, the things he would say, the scriptures he would come up with that were so intense, but that would, in his case, out of his perspective, be comforting, even though they're tough.
just in his suffering I have some things that I remember and do you remember I also have a memory from him you know before we had to say goodbye that you fasted with him one time for 42 days just drinking really healthy something and you his friend your relationship I always admire that you did the whole fasting thing with him yeah I mean I'm still so impressed I don't know if I could do it
Well, we had already started, we started delving into when we found out he had cancer, we started delving into, or me particularly, looking for alternative methods of healing and health.
And so this, somebody recommended of this booklet, and it was one of these health fasting layouts with teas and strained vegetable juices and onion soup and
yeah all of this
yeah i prepared everything yeah yeah yeah we both got very skinny right And then after that, he did have his reports or x-rays were better.
I remember the doctors were surprised, even though they told him that's all, you know, dumb stuff.
