#277- Rhinotillexomania And Picking The Right Treatment

All right, let's get on to the question.

So, all right, this question today comes from...

Pick me, not my nose.

This is the name that they gave themselves.

Is that their real name? Their parental given name? Probably not, but maybe, maybe.

So pick me, not my nose.

All right, here's their question.

They say, I was hoping you could talk about the overlap between OCD and rhinotelexomania.

That is not a word that I think I've ever pronounced in my life.

I'd look this up.

This is me just talking.

I had to look this up to get the correct pronunciation, and I still messed it up.

All right.

They say, I've dealt with OCD symptoms for the majority of my life, but began OCD-specific therapy a few months ago.

I've also suffered with compulsive nose-picking .

Compulsive nose-picking since I was a child.

Despite years of pain, daily nosebleeds, and embarrassment if caught, I always thought I just lacked the willpower to resist the intense urge to pick.

I recently developed nasal septal perforation and will eventually need surgery to repair the hole in my cartilage in my nose.

The shame associated with having to share my struggles with numerous doctors and nurses has been embarrassing to say the least.

I'm wondering if there are specific treatment modalities that are recommended for people dealing with OCD and rhinotalexomania.

They go on to say...

Also, I love the show and appreciate all that you pour into it.

The community you've created with this podcast is nothing short of spectacular.

Okay.

Pick me, not my nose.
