When people ask me sometimes, what do you think the best specialty to go into is, I ask a question that I don't think they're expecting to ask because they're hearing from other doctors and colleagues that had success in, whether it's myopia management, sclerals, dry eye.

But the question I'll usually ask first is, what do you enjoy the most? You mentioned the word passion.

I'm sure there's a doctor out there that does pediatrics that doesn't like kids, but I haven't met them yet, or that they thrive in that area.

But most of the doctors I see that specialize in something and are really successful with it, they have a passion for that.

Is that important? Is that something you should take under strong consideration when you're deciding which way to go?

And I think that right there is why this clinic was able to grow so much because I am so passionate about dry eyes and sclerals.

And to be honest with you, I think it's that passion that taking a few extra moments to tell the patients about, hey, you know, there are multiple layers of a tear film.

Taking a few moments and when you're explaining something you're passionate about, people can read that.

Because again, I'll take that extra time to tell patients, hey, this is what you got going on.
