Mississippi State drops Game 2 in College Station, falling 11-9 to No. 10 Texas A&M. The Bulldogs led 5-4 heading into the third before the Aggies erupted for four runs on two home runs to take…
I thought the start, it, it really kind of started with Duke Stone and not coming out and commanding the strike zone.
He was behind in counts, a lot of 2-2 counts, and he couldn't really finish them off.
We talked yesterday about how good this Texas A&M team is at commanding the strike zone on their end, and they did a really good job of noticing balls and strikes with him early, and he got behind in counts, and they got hitters counts, and they made him pay.
I mean, he was dropping pitches right down the pipe, and they were able to hit him out of the yard or, or get some hard-hit balls.
I mean, it really felt like even when State was leading the ballgame on a couple of different occasions, they were fighting uphill because you knew when you came back to the bottom of the inning it was going to be tough to get a zero, and that's really what, what you saw.
I mean, it was, it was State just battling at the plate, trying to get, you know, stay pace for pace with them, and you get it to the, the seventh inning, and you get your best pitcher in the ballgame in fresh corn, and, uh, you know, at that point it was just going to be tough for State.
It's just going to be really difficult to beat teams when your starter can't get you three innings, and in the three innings he gives up nine hits and seven runs.
