The Podcast's Name Is Surveillance: Joe's Meshuggah Ranking

everything is enjoyable to me um but of course the whole point of this is to rank them so i'm gonna rank them so last place number 12 immutable the most recent album The reason I have this in last place and in my C tier is because it's the one Meshuggah album for me where they didn't really do anything new or different.

It's pretty much repeating the past, and it's not repeating the past in a way of let's improve upon the past.

Wow, that's a lot of Ps.

let's not improve upon what we did before let's sort of recycle a little bit and again it's still a solid album my memory of this album will now forever be me in the netherlands i did a solo trip to the netherlands and there was this one day where i went crazy i went inside the tulip fields and then i went to the hague um i went to the beach the hague is actually kind of big by area and then there's like this beach component to it so i went out there And by the end of it, I had done like 40,000 steps and I, my chest was hurting at one point from the amount of walking I was doing.

So I rode this, uh, tram, like a, yeah, like a street car from the Hague to this little city called Delft.

That's about 45 minutes South, or maybe it's an hour.

Um, Something like that, because I listened to Immutable the whole way, and then I just looked out the side of this tram at the Netherlands, you know, through the city and then through the countryside.

So that's my memory of this album.

And it was a great listening companion for that experience.

So that's just my love of Meshuggah, is that even the album that I rank the lowest, I only have good memories of it, really.

But in all fairness, it's too long.

It's over an hour long.

It's just kind of inessential.

Again, if you put it on for me, I'm going to enjoy it.

But if you give me these 12 choices and then say, which one are you going to? It's not going to be anywhere near my top pick right out of the pile.

And on top of that, they're not really doing anything new.

They're not really pushing boundaries at this point.

So that's why it gets number 12 for me.

And then my other album that made it into the C tier, number 11, is Obzen.

This album is probably their most well-known album to, like, the normies,

you know?

Partially because of the cover, right? It's got this kind of Tool-style cover.

Like, creepy, like, Uncanny Valley-type stuff.

And then, of course, this is the album that has Bleed.
