Testament

We're going to hear the day America cried from Jim Peterick and Johnny Van Zandt.

We'll also hear Bon Jovi with Undivided, Tesla with Heaven 9-11, and Testament with The Evil Has Landed.

Four very different songs, four different perspectives, but today they serve one purpose, to remember the nearly 3,000 people who went to work, boarded airplanes, answered the call to help others, or simply began an ordinary Tuesday morning and never came home.

25 years later, we remember them.

Four songs, as we remember September 11th, 2001, 25 years later.

We just heard Testament with The Evil Has Landed, and before that, Tesla with Heaven 9-11, Bon Jovi with Undivided, and we began the set with Jim Peterick and Johnny Van Zant and The Day America Cried.

25 years have passed, but we will never forget the lives that were lost that day, the heroes who ran toward danger to help others, or the countless lives that were forever changed.

Mid- late...

Mid-late '80s, I got into all that stuff, and it was right there.

Like, you could go to the Omni in Oakland and see Testament and yeah, those shows were insane.

Right.

I only went to one Ruthie's.

The Age of Quarrel became the blueprint for crossover thrash's sound.

Think early demos by the Misfits bassist Jerry Only in New York and later metal acts like Testament, who took that same aggressive pace but added more complex solos, or even bands such as Slayer, who had their own speed drumming backbone and wanted a bass that wasn't just rhythmic filler.

What the Cro-Mags did was put hardcore's socio-political edge on top of metal's sonic weight.

So the next generation of musicians didn't see it as an either-or decision but rather an open invitation to merge genres.

And this is Charred Walls of the Damned, which is a progressive death metal album from Richard Christie, formerly of Death and the Howard Stern Show.

and Iced Earth and things like that, featuring Tim Ripper Owens on vocals, Jason Sukoff, the producer on guitars, and Steve DiGiorgio of Death, Status, and Testament on bass.

But this is before Testament.

Kind of.

But that progression has kind of got that weird froggy kind of vibe.

on several different songs.

And on this track, we've got Rudy Sarzo, of course, bassist supreme, and Alex Skolnick, great guitarist from Testament, joining the band on this track.

Chuck Billy of Testament he's got a brand new book out holding my breath the two testaments of Chuck Billy I started going through the book this week I'm going to wrap it up maybe tonight or tomorrow so I have a lot to talk about with the book and his life story goes back to when he was a kid a lot of funny stories like when he was younger and like you know growing up in his family and everything so I'm just about up to the, you know, the legacy part of the book.

And then we'll go into Testament and we'll see how it ends.
