Gentleness is the radical cousin of kindness — because only the strong can truly practice it. New episode by Christie Thomas is up now on rethinking gentleness as strength, not weakness…

When the nurses first laid my newborn son in my arms, I couldn't believe how tiny he was.

From the itty-bitty wrinkled feet to the little cheeks that would soon fill out, he was small, red, and very, very vulnerable.

Even though I was stapled and glued together after my C-section, it would have been ludicrous to consider a newborn baby to be gentle or ungentle.

Despite my weakness after 24 hours of labor and an emergency surgery, I was the one who held the power in the situation.

We often think of gentleness as weakness, but the two are actually very different.

In fact, I consider gentleness to be the radical cousin of kindness because while anyone can be kind, a person can only truly be gentle when they have strength.

Gentleness occurs when someone with power holds back for the sake of the vulnerable, as I did with my newborn son.

If you've thought of gentleness as a weakness in the past, you are in good company.

And now, Lord, take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.'" That tantrum is from Jonah 4 verses 2 to 3.
