Rutte tells Russia to stop nuclear threats at Euronews defence summit

All right, Shona.

So we had Franken, Radev, Whittaker.

Who was your favorite?

Oh, obviously Matthew Whittaker was the one I was interested in most.

They were all very good.

I think there was a few things that we can point at.

The first thing from the Belgian defense minister, air defense, air defense, air defense, the scarcity of air defense globally, mainly as a result of the United States burning through its stockpile because of the war in Iran, but also Ukraine is therefore... suffering, as we know, day to day by these air attacks, drone attacks, ballistic missile attacks from Russia.

That's a real problem.

At the summit yesterday, we did have an amazing moment from Firepoint, which is a Ukrainian organization that's trying to create their own Ukrainian made air defenses interceptors.

But that won't be on the market for another year or so.

The other piece is I think there's a lack of consensus about how NATO should respond to these below threshold hybrid attacks that we're seeing.

The Baltics, much more confrontational about it.

The United States, Mark Rutte saying less so.

Right.

Lack of consensus

also about the nuclear threat.

So Mark Rutte was very clear.

There is no real threat.

But the Bulgarians had a different opinion.

They're definitely intimidated by this nuclear threat from Moscow.

And of course, Matthew Whitaker then not being too clear about what's going to happen in relation to US troops in NATO territory.

All right, Shona, thank you so much for coming on this morning.
