Episode # 37 - Perfectionism

So I will say our perfectionism always makes sense.

I'll talk about that throughout the episode.

As humans we always make sense.

There's always a good psychological explanation for what we are doing.

And so my brain would tell me that my podcast, as an example, was going to be available immediately all over the world to anybody who wanted to listen.

And so...

That made me want to do it right.

Again, it makes sense because it really was available all over the world.

Not that anybody would be listening at the beginning because you have to really promote it and talk about it and encourage other people to listen to have somebody outside your local sphere of influence listening.

Yet at this point, you know, any given episode can be listened to 8,000, 9,000 times.

So that's 8,000, 9,000 women physicians all around the globe.

on every continent except Antarctica.

And so it's not so much per se that I think they're going to judge.

It's that I'm going to judge for me.

I know for some people, perfectionism includes other people judging more so.

But for me, I just... often think I could have done better.

I could have done better.

I could have done better.

And the thing is, yeah, we probably all could do better and it's okay to just be done, to be real, to be human.

So I have found in the way that I show up in my coaching program and in my Facebook group and with my friends and my family and places where I am comfortable that It's very clear.

I don't think my job is to be perfect or to make things perfect.

And people appreciate that I'm willing to be seen as imperfect.

And so maybe my job is just to show up and be present and share what matters to me.

And so this is a version of sharing something that matters to me.

And I posted in my Facebook group before I recorded this episode, letting people know that I was going to record a new podcast episode on perfectionism, since it's exactly what keeps me from recording the podcast.
