Adam kicks off Into the Fields with a message on compassion. #iamembrace Embrace is one church, made up of multiple campuses and network churches…
20 years ago, Embrace started with 32 people gathered in a room to hear about a church that didn't exist yet, a church where you didn't have to be perfect to attend, a church that didn't claim to have it all figured out, and a church that would do anything possible to tell one more person about Jesus.
There were so many Sundays where I genuinely wondered if anyone was going to show up, if anyone was going to come.
At the time, we met at a church and every week we had to carry out this giant wooden A-frame sign to the street to let people know that Embrace existed.
And some weeks I had help from a friend and other weeks I had to carry the sign all by myself.
I was carrying the sign alone and halfway out to the road, I stopped underneath it and I prayed, God, what am I doing here? This is all so stupid.
And yet in that moment, I sensed God saying, but Adam, this is exactly where I want you to be.
Looking back, it became a huge pivotal moment for me, just beginning to trust that God had a plan for this new church that I couldn't see.
In September of 2009, we moved into our first lease location, and in one morning we doubled in size.
A few years later, when plans fell through for an addition at 57th Street, God opened another door instead, and we ended up launching our T campus, becoming a multi-site church.
Then in 2021, through a process called Traction, we set a bold goal to reach 5% of the Sioux Falls area by the year 2031.
Even after sending hundreds of families to those campuses, 57th Street is now the largest it's ever been.
