Um, but I was, I was excited about this one because, as you know, there, uh, has been a lot of writing about FTX.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
And there were two different film projects that-- Oh, thank you for, uh, posting that link to my book.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
Um, there are, there were two film projects that were film or TV projects that were, uh, commissioned around FTX.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
Um, and one was the five million that Apple TV paid to Michael Lewis for his book, uh, "Going Infinite," which was written before Sam Bankman-Fried's criminal trial, um, and, and has some virtues.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
Um, but broadly, unfortunately, it seems that Michael Lewis was basically conned by Sam Bankman-Fried as well and wrote a book that reflected his state of mind as the victim of a con, um, to a certain extent.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
But point being, Apple TV commissioned or paid $5 million for the rights to Michael Lewis's book, and then, uh, also for a while, Lena Dunham was attached to that project, which maybe that could have been good.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
I think she's a very talented, uh, writer, and I think that maybe she could have found, uh, something.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
You know, it, it feels like the Netflix thing is maybe going a little bit for, like, awkward, um, flailing young people, and, you know, Lena Dunham writes that really well.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
I don't think you could have gotten, uh, an honest version of events out of Michael Lewis's book as source material.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
So that's why I was excited for this Netflix project, which is based on a different set of reporting.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
Um, I'm not exactly sure, but it's basically from New York Magazine reporting.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
One, Jen Vietz, who I used to work with at Fortune, uh, who's very talented and writes very cool crypto crime features for them, um, about every six months now.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
Um, and she, she didn't write about FTX, but, um, just to say that I respect New York.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
Um, and, uh, Kevin Duggan, D-U-G-G-A-N, his reporting on FTX and even on effective altruism afterwards-- Okay, now he's clawing me when I try and take him off my lap, so this is the stage where he gets locked out.
:format(jpg)/s3.amazonaws.com/arc-authors/coindesk/ed04f768-3144-4d44-b199-51d9b30bf809.png)
So this New, this New York Magazine reporting, uh, by Kevin Duggan and others, I thought was quite good at the time.
