I watch a lot of horror movies, and there are some general themes in them that reveal the things humans are really terrified of.

We may not have the strongest bodies, but with our technology, weapons, and big brains, we generally avoid being eaten.

From Alien and Predator to the Hills Have Eyes and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the idea of being hunted is terrifying to us.

Another thing we find terrifying is the idea that something that should not be dangerous, at least to us, becomes dangerous.

Scary clowns, dolls, books, and all kinds of other things have us turning up the lights when they go from innocent to scary.

There is a whole other genre, which is when humans become hunted by animals that would not normally be predators to us.

Jaws and the birds are the classics, but now we've got crawl and thrash and a whole genre of the animal is coming after us movies.
